What influence did Cayce have on holistic remedies?

The American Holistic Medical Association defines holistic medicine as: "the art and science of healing that addresses care of the whole person - body, mind, and spirit. The practice of holistic medicine integrates conventional and complementary therapies to promote optimal health and to prevent and treat disease by addressing contributing factors."

Edgar Cayce has been labeled as the father of holistic medicine. In fact, the Journal of the American Medical Association credited Cayce with initiating the holistic movement in America. For years, Cayce would go into a self-induced sleep state and then provide his assistants with remedies for various diseases and conditions. These remedies are now known as Edgar Cayce readings.

Cayce said, "…all strength, all healing of every nature is the changing of the vibrations from within, the attuning of the divine within the living tissue of a body to Creative Energies. This alone is healing. Whether it is accomplished by the use of drugs, the knife, or what-not, it is the attuning of the atomic structure of the living cellular force to its spiritual heritage."1

So, who was Edgar Cayce and why do we rely on his readings as the source of many of our holistic remedies? We encourage you to learn more about this so-called "sleeping prophet." Who was he? What is the basis for these remedies? Have his predictions come true?
